CompactFlash reader will be seen as a hard drive connected to the IDE interface. This solution is advantageous in embedded systems and thin clients where there is no room for a normal hard drive. One can now get CF card up to 64 GB, but even with an industrial CF card of 16 GB, there is plenty of space to install an operating system. With one of these CF card adapters it is thus possible to have a system without a normal hard drive. The transfer rate is typically 10 MB / s depending on the CF type. CF cards have a lower power than a hard drive. Note the use of adapters, it is only industrial CF card that can be booted from.
